Culver was a UDT frogman who lead UDT Team 6 during the battle of Peleliu. The right side of stock has "HAROLD W CULVER USN R" lightly carved above the inspection cartouches. The two-rivet handguard and operating slide appear unmarked but the remaining parts are correctly of Winchester or Winchester subcontractor manufacture. The nicely figured highwood walnut stock rates excellent with a crisp "WRA/GHD" marking, a strong ordnance wheel, a tiny chip in the band keeper recess, a couple light dings and a few handling marks. The metal surfaces retain 97% original parkerized and blued finishes with some silvering on the barrel and a few small spots of oxidation staining. Serial #1079556, 30 Carbine, 18" Winchester barrel with a bright excellent bore. M1 Carbine by Winchester Purportedly belonging to UDT Lt. A very attractive late Police Positive Special overall beautifully accented by this well-thought-of New England engraver. The very front of the frame at its knuckle is neatly signed "J Adams", the gun is otherwise as-new and appears unfired since Mr Adams did the wonderful quality engraving. The checkered walnut grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions rate excellent and they are numbered on the interior to the gun in grease pencil.
